  • The Pecora collection is designed as a metaphore to tell about a people, Sardinia's people, traditionally committed to pastoralism, that has become in time the symbol of the workshop's production.

  • The collection of small monochromatic woman-shaped artifacts is part of the Bixinau project, launched in 2012 as a 3D tribute to all the women, aunts, granmas and girls who livened up the streets of the village throughout the day, to share advice and opinions.

  • The Gregge collection is the tale of a jouney, a photo-set of the bucolic world, images carved on clay oven pan tiles, skillfully decorated on overlapping slips.

The artisan

The activity was founded in 2001 with the opening of Ariuceramiche , a small workshop in the center of Cagliari. Cristina graduated in art history while Stefania completed her high school studies in applied ceramic art. This is indeed a shared project for them: they shape and colour their childhood, recalling the farmers and herders, weavers and carpenters who lived in their hometown, Mogoro. Over time, their commitment, passion and desire to seek new challenges brought them to broaden their search, shaping their thoughts into objects that could become symbols and tell stories. This is how their most interesting project, Pecora, Gregge, Bixinau, started, including strong identity objects, that have become the icons of their work and a contemporary production that features a perfect balance between tradition and innovation, offering simple objects full of charm and poetry.

The collection

Their poetic collections are characterized by a clear taste for decoration, close to the most interesting trends of contemporary arts. Small and large decorative objects, such as ceramic panels and statues, offer endless possibilities for composition and decoration. Particularly interesting is the collection dedicated to stylized sheep, a representation of the pastoral world, that has become a symbol not only of identity but also an icon project curated by the two craftswomen. The same purpose is shared by the Bixinau project, a set of fine and expressive female statuettes telling a three-dimensional story dedicated to simple living, a tribute to all Sardinian women.

The technique

By rolling clay, all artefacts are shaped and decorated with slips and engravings. Surfaces defined by small marks, made of engraved slips and then glazed, with contrasting colours, characterize the Pecore and the Gregge collection. The Bixinau project is made of fire-resistant clay, more similar to the texture of stone. Clay is sometimes intentionally left porous or smoothed with great skill, and its colours are usually black and white in the whole collection.
